Edwardian Terrace

Brighton, East Sussex

The cost of moving home has become so significant that, even for younger couples in their first house, upgrading to move to something bigger just isn’t affordable so many are looking to extend their homes.

Lucerne elavation

That was exactly the situation facing these clients, a young professional couple with busy jobs and a long commute from Brighton. They wanted to make the most of their Edwardian Terrace by extending just about every which way but forwards!

Of course the site constraints were significant, not least because all construction materiel would have to be moved through the house. They had some great ideas, but unfortunately a couple of them, which would have given them a fantastic space, just could never have been justified financially.

Our brief here was to help them maximise the potential of the property, and then work with the Council to get planning permission, bearing in mind that the house is situated in a conservation area.

Lucerne plans

We were also commissioned to produce detailed designs for the builders to quote against and a schedule of anticipated works.

As this is a very recent project and building is due to start next year, we are still looking forward to seeing the results.
